Everyone PLAYS, Everyone VOLUNTEERS

Participation

Everybody plays. There is no special requirement for playing in the fall season, just a desire to have fun playing soccer. Teams are formed in July  and balanced to promote fair play.

AYSO follows US Soccer’s Birth Year registration, and Division naming convention ##U versus U##. The "U" means "Under" and the ## is aligned to the age the players will be by the end of 2019.  So rather than being U10 (Under 10), players will now be 10U ("10 and Under"). What does this mean to you? Players must be born between January 1, 2001 and December 31, 2015 to be eligible for Fall 2019. Please refer to the Age Guide below to determine your child's Division for the upcoming Fall season.

The ONLY way for your child to “buddy” with a friend is if you and your child’s friend’s parent coach together. A Coach/Ref pairing is also accepted - but only two adults may pair up. See coaching section below.

Fees

The 2019 Fall Player Registration Fee is $135 plus a non-refundable AYSO Annual Membership Fee of $120.  The Fall Player Registration Fee is used to offset the cost of uniforms, player insurance, field rental fees, equipment, volunteer training, and other incidental expenses.

  • Early registration fees will be $135 + $20 AYSO National fee for a total of $155Early registration ends on 5/31/19.

  • Starting 6/1/19 the fee will go up to $185 + $20 AYSO National Fee for a total of $205.00

Coaching

We are always in need of volunteer coaching.  You do not need to be a soccer expert to be a successful coach, we offer training and a lot of support.   If you are interested in coaching, please complete the volunteer application on Blue Sombrero in addition to registering your player.

Questions and Answers

Who can play?

Boys and Girls between the ages of 3 and 18 years of age play in our Fall Program.

Even though we’re called the Pleasant Hill-Martinez Soccer Association, there is no residency requirement. We have kids from all of the surrounding communities in addition to Pleasant Hill and Martinez residents.

Q.  My child has decided not to play or can’t play, how do I get a refund?

All refund requests must be submitted in writing.

a. Refund form submitted on or before July 31st

100% refund after the non refundable national fee is deducted (except for $50 late fee if registration sent after May 31st)

b. Refund form submitted on or before August 15th (and uniform returned)

50% refund after the non-refundable national fee is deducted (except for $50 late fee if registration received after May 31st)

c. Refund form submitted after August 15th

0% refund

Q: I registered my player, but they are on the waiting list.  What does that mean?

Waiting List Registration means that your player is on a first come first served list (based on date and time of registration) awaiting placement on a team. (fees are not charged until the player is added to a team) The ONLY exception to the first come first served rule is the situation where a waitlisted player moves to the front of the line because their division needs a coach or referee and their parent or guardian volunteers to take this role.  If your player is on the waiting list and you want to coach a team, please send an email to [email protected]

The following will result in your wait listed player being placed on a team from the waiting list:

  • Space is available on a team in the players division when teams are formed (generally prior to season start)

  • If there are enough players on the waiting list and an available coach which results in a new team being formed (note the coach volunteer provision above)

  • If any players withdraw after the season starts, the available spot will be given to the player at the top of the waiting list

Generally all players that remain on the waiting list after two weeks of games have been played will be issued a refund of the both the Fall Player Registration Fee and the AYSO Annual Membership Fee (a player's application for AYSO Annual Membership is not submitted until they have been removed from the waiting list).  If a player is removed from the waiting list, assigned to a team, and then withdraws; the AYSO Annual Membership Fee of $20 is non-refundable.

Q: Does AYSO Region 281 have a Scholarship Policy?

PHMSA has a Scholarship Request Form (pdf format) and there is a formal process for requesting and awarding scholarships as we feel strongly that it is important to be sensitive to the needs of our community.

PHMSA is a non-profit organization and is run by volunteers.  Each player's registration fees help to cover costs associated with uniforms, insurance, equipment, field usage fees, maintenance and upkeep. We encourage families to pay as much of the fees as possible to help PHMAS cover these costs.

Our scholarship request form may be downloaded, and  should be filled out completely and submitted directly to our Regional Commissioner via email at [email protected].

Q: How are balanced teams created each season?

All players are balanced across teams within a specific division based primarily on age and player rating.  Following are the team balancing details:

  • The Coaches are NOT INVOLVED in the creation of teams at PHMSA, they receive their roster and team assignment at the beginning of the season like everyone else

  • The only way to guarantee that unrelated players are on the same team is to coach or ref the same team with the parent or guardian of the other player

  • Team Manager, Team Parent, or Team Referee requests to be on the same team with a specific coach or player are not considered due to the impact on team balance

  • Buddy, friend, and carpool requests are not considered due to the impact on team balance. Requests to be on a specific coach's team are not considered due to the impact on team balance.

  • Players are assigned to teams during the team building process that considers player age and player rating

    • For player age, an example is first year 12U vs second year 12U

    • For player ratings, these ratings are supplied by coaches at the conclusion of each Fall season

    • Unrated players given a middle/average rating for team balancing

  • The teams are then reviewed for any fine tuning to improve balance by age or player rating.

  • Once the team rosters are released to the parents and coaches, player moves across teams are limited to accommodating new coach pairing requests and adjusting team balance due to player withdraw requests or new player additions

  • Once games begin, we do not move players to different teams; we replace withdrawn players with waitlisted or late registration players or otherwise add players to a team to fill available roster spots

Q. What is the time commitment for players?

It depends on the age division, the coach, and the calendar.

During the season all other age-groups typically practice one evening during the week (10U and under typically 1 hours duration; 12U and above typically 90 minute duration) and have one game per week, usually on Saturdays. During the Pre-Season an additional practice is typically added on the Saturday in-lieu of a game.  Practices may continue all season, but teams usually stop practicing around the end of Daylight Savings Time at the end of October.
