PROGRAMS

PHMSA offers a variety of programs for all ages and skill levels.  Players follow a player development pathway that starts with Playground and Schoolyard, and then moves on to Fall Core, Spring Select, Spring Academy, Fall Select, and ultimately AYSO United East Bay.  Players that age out of our youth programs then have the ability to play in our AYSO Adult Soccer program.

All of our programs follow the AYSO 6 philosophies:
Everyone Plays
Balanced Teams
Open Registration
Positive Coaching
Good Sportsmanship
Player Development

Program Descriptions

Playground: This program is for our youngest athletes.  It is specifically tailored to focus on fine motor skills and body mechanics using soccer related activities.  Playground sessions are once a week during the Fall.

Schoolyard: The Schoolyard program is an academy style program that introduces players to soccer and focuses on developing the basic techniques in a fun, relaxed environment.  This program has once-a-week sessions on Sundays during the Fall where players participate in skill building soccer related activities, and then finish with a fun scrimmage-like game.  No teams are formed and the sessions are coed.

Fall Core: As the name states, this is our core program for all ages 6U through 19U.  Teams are formed and practice generally once a week with games played on weekends.  Games are typically played on Saturdays locally in Pleasant Hill and Martinez.  At the end of the season teams from older age groups (10U and up) will have the opportunity to play in the Area Cup against other Core teams from within our AYSO Area.

Spring Select: This tryout based program is intended to give the top players from Fall Core a chance to continue to develop their skill against other top level players throughout the Bay Area.  Teams generally practice twice a week and play games on the weekends.  Some travel is involved in this program as games are played throughout the Bay Area and tournaments are played in locations such as San Jose, Davis and Carson City, NV.

Spring Academy:  The Spring Academy program is for players aged 6U through 12U, and is a great place for players to work on their skills in the Spring without the commitment to a higher level team.  There are no teams or practices in this program, players meet for weekly sessions and participate in soccer skill building activities and then finish the session with a scrimmage type of game.

Fall Select: Similar to Spring Select, Fall Select is a tryout based program aimed at bridging the gap between Fall Core and AYSO United.  Fall Select teams will form and play against other top level AYSO teams throughout the Bay Area.  Teams can also choose to play in tournaments during the Fall season.

AYSO United East Bay: This is the top level of the player pathway and is the official club program of AYSO.  PHMSA supports the AYSO United East Bay club and encourages our players to tryout for the United teams each May.  Additional information can be found on the AYSO United East Bay website at www.aysounitedeastbay.org.

AYSO Adult Soccer: The newest program to PHMSA, AYSO Adult Soccer offers a place for adults to play soccer in a fun, safe, and friendly environment.  This program will be officially rolling out in the near future.
